Gold has once again made headlines in Turkey after hitting a new record high, with gram gold reaching an unprecedented 4,471 lira late Tuesday night. Though prices dipped slightly in early trading Wednesday morning, settling around 4,454 lira per gram, the precious metal continues to hold strong amid shifting global dynamics.

Markets React to Trump’s U.S.–Japan Trade Agreement

The latest catalyst for market movement was former U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a trade agreement with Japan. The deal includes a 15% tariff on Japanese imports, aimed at balancing trade between the two nations. Investors responded with a brief return to riskier assets, which caused a modest pullback in gold prices. Still, the correction was minimal thanks to continued weakness in the U.S. dollar and declining Treasury yields—both of which traditionally support higher gold prices.

Spot Gold and Futures Remain Elevated

Spot gold was trading at $3,423.44 per ounce, down just 0.2%, while U.S. gold futures hovered around $3,437.70. Earlier in the session, gold touched its highest levels since June 16. Even with the trade news, the market sentiment around gold remains cautiously bullish, especially as economic uncertainty lingers.

What Analysts Are Saying

According to Tim Waterer, Chief Market Analyst at CM Trade, any further trade deals signed before August 1 could enhance risk appetite among investors. That, in turn, might reduce safe-haven demand for gold in the short term. However, geopolitical tensions and monetary policy trends still offer solid support for the metal.

Turkey’s Gold Rush Continues

In Turkey, the surge in gold prices is not just a reflection of global movement—it’s also heavily influenced by domestic factors like currency fluctuations and inflationary pressure. Even with a small overnight drop, gold remains a sought-after asset for Turkish investors looking to hedge against volatility.

Whether you’re holding, buying, or just watching from the sidelines, it’s clear that gold is once again at the center of both global finance and local conversation.
