FIVE LIRA COIN TURKEY

Copper, zinc, and nickel alloy-produced metal 5 lira coins, specially prepared for the 100th anniversary of the Republic, have entered into circulation. Commemorative coins for the 100th year were designed as a one-time issue, and 100 million pieces were printed.

The metal 5 lira coins, prepared as 8.25 grams, have serrated edges, an octagonal Seljuk star motif on the outer ring, and a crescent and star in the center, creating visual integrity with “TURKEY’S 100TH YEAR.” On the obverse side, there is a photograph of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk wearing a hat.

Economically, it is noted that these new metal 5 lira coins will greatly contribute to alleviating the shortage of small change in the market. It is observed that business owners are going to Central Bank branches and requesting large amounts.

Although it is stated that the new metal 5 TL coins were released only once, it is anticipated that printing new ones according to demand will provide limited but beneficial relief to the small change shortage.

Furthermore, it is expected that these coins will be particularly preferred by the public for hygiene reasons.
