Among the $50.7 billion agreements signed by Turkey’s government with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a nuclear energy project is said to have been in question. Within this context, the aim is to develop and execute projects in both countries.

NUCLEAR PROJECT IN AGREEMENT WITH UAE

In addition to the nuclear power plant constructed with Russia in Akkuyu, the government is also working on plans for the second and third nuclear power plants. While preparations are ongoing, the agreements signed with Gulf countries are said to include a “nuclear” topic, as well.

A deputy from Hatay, requested information from the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, regarding the agreements made with Gulf countries, in a parliamentary inquiry that he submitted in order to obtain answers.

WILL THEY BE PARTNERS?

He posed the question, “Is it true that, within the scope of the energy agreement signed between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a refinery and petrochemical facility will be established in the Dörtyol district of Hatay by the Turkey Wealth Fund? Will the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia be a partner in this facility, which is claimed to be established with a $10 billion investment by the Turkey Wealth Fund?”

Responding to the inquiry, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources noted that the agreements would be submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly for approval.
