JIVARO NATIVES DECAPTIVATED HEADS 1

356 pieces of historical artifacts belonging to different periods and 27 oil paintings and icons belonging to the 18th century were seized during an operation held in a house and warehouse in Izmir. Among the artifacts, human heads were also found, which the Jivaro Indians decapitated and  implemented special treatment.

Among the historical artifacts recovered, it was noted that there were human heads called “TSANTSA”, decapitated and made smaller via special treatment by the Jivaro natives living in the depths of Peru and the Amazon.

It was stated that the Jivaro Indians performed a heroic act by cutting off the heads of their enemies they had killed, emptying them, hanging them around their necks, and believed that this would protect them.

The seized historical artifacts were handed over to the Izmir Museum Directorate, and the oil paintings were handed over to the Izmir Painting, Sculpture Museum and Gallery Directorate.
