Houthis of Yemen, supported by Iran, target US-owned container ship

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that a ballistic missile fired from Houthi-controlled territory hit the US container ship ‘Gibraltar Eagle.’

The statement conveyed that there were no injuries, and the ship did not sustain significant damage, adding that the vessel continued its course.

What had happened?

In reaction to Israel’s attacks in Gaza, the Houthis started seizing commercial ships belonging to Israeli companies in the waters off Yemen and launching drone and missile attacks from October 31.

Following the Houthi actions, numerous shipping companies decided to suspend their voyages in the Red Sea.
