OPERATIONS OF TURKEY IN SYRIA

“We see that we are obliged to make some interventions to protect our country,” said National Defense Minister Akar, who made statements about the ‘operation in Syria’ agenda. National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, who evaluated possible cross-border military action in Syria, said, “Due to the current situation, we see that we are obliged to make some interventions to protect our country. We expect everyone to understand this.”

Akar met with the Minister of State for Defense Affairs, Mohammed Bin Ahmad Al Bowardi, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he went on an official visit. He was received by the President of the UAE and the Emir of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and held various contacts.

‘OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF OUR BORDERS’

Akar, who made statements here, also answered questions related to the agenda. On the question of a possible new operation in Syria, Akar reminded that Turkish Armed Forces had undertaken the operations of the Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, perform the Operation Peace Shield from 2016 onward and shared following:

“Our only goal in these activities was to ensure the security of our country, our nation and our borders. There was a ‘terror corridor’ that wanted to be created there. We have stated that we would not allow them as these were extremely inconvenient and dangerous attempts from the point of view of the security of our country. If we hadn’t intervened in these things, we would be struggling with much more difficult conditions right now. We are of the same opinion, yesterday and today, we are making the same assessment. Therefore, I once again express that we will not allow terrorist activities here in terms of the security of our country and nation.”
