BOTAS GAS PIPES TURKEY

The General Manager of BOTAS (Gas Distribution Co) has said that if no natural gas was supplied to Turkey, the current reserve would be enough for the next 15 days, only.

Turkey obtains almost all of its natural gas needs with gas shipped by pipelines from Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Algeria, Nigeria and other countries and transported by ships. It uses imported natural gas to meet a third of its electricity needs, as well.

Some of the agreements with these countries were also completed at the end of 2021 and it was agreed to switch to current prices.

As for the energy import bill, it had risen by an average of 20 percent every month in September-January in parallel with the increase in international prices and unprecedented depreciation in the TL.

The problems accumulated in the energy sector turned into a crisis when Iran cut off natural gas for a while, the supply problem peaked with the start of electricity and natural gas outages in organized industrial zones (OSB), and the adequacy of the amount of gas in the warehouses was questioned.
