Government paves the way to allow construction of various structures in areas under strict protection

PROTECTED NATURE AREAS IN TURKEY

A regulation allowing mining activities carried out to meet the electricity needs in the areas registered as olive groves issued in the title deed was put into effect, recently. After the regulation allowing mining in olive grove areas, the way for construction has now been opened in protected areas.

An amendment published in today’s edition of the Official Gazette paved the way for allowing various structures in areas under strict protection.

Some amendments have been made to the “Regulation on the Procedures and Principles for the Identification, Registration and Approval of Protected Areas”.

Strictly protected areas

Accordingly, although there is a definite building ban in areas under strict protection it will be possible to do the following according to the assessment to be made by the regional commissions on the nature, content and necessity of activities.

– In cases where it is mandatory in the public interest; Wastewater, drinking water, natural gas and power lines, provided that the existing road route is used.- Facilities that are necessary for national security.

– Works aimed at opening a forest fire path, maintenance and repair of forests, combating biotic pests and abiotic (fire, flood, storm) factors.

– Fishing activities carried out in accordance with the views of the relevant public institutions in order to ensure the continuity of the natural balance in the Dalyan and lagoon ecosystems and using traditional hunting methods arising from the nature of the area, provided that no structures are made.
