BODIES MELT DOWN INTO MANURE OR BIOGAS

Dutch interior minister has announced that they would allow the “alkaline hydrolysis” method, which allows funerals to be melted in a chemical liquid, except for burial and cremation. He said the liquid and bones left over from the deceased could be used to make organic fertilizer or biogas.

In the Netherlands, cremation was allowed in 1955. According to the Algemeen Dagblad (AD) newspaper, for the first time since then, the funeral legislation will be amended.

The Dutch Health Council has proposed to the government that the funeral legislation be reformed. The proposal called for melting to be allowed, a “safe and sustainable” method.

According to the council, coffins can be reused with this method, saving more energy than incineration. (SOURCE: BBC TÜRKÇE)
