CENTRAL BANK DECISION FOR INTEREST RATES

This week, interest rate decisions will come from 14 central banks, mainly the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), the US central bank (Fed), the Bank of England (BoE) and Bank of Japan (BoJ). Currency rates, which followed a volatile course last week, have made a horizontal start to the week. Dollar / TL started at 7.56 and euro/TL started at 9.04-9.05 which are last week’s closing levels.

Stock markets around the world rose slightly as yields on US Treasury bonds rose at a 13-month peak on expectations that economic growth in the US will accelerate after a US$ 1.9 trillion stimulus package was approved last week. The S & P 500 index futures rose 0.2 percent in Asian trading, slightly below the record high it saw last week. Japan’s Nikkei index rose slightly, 0.3 percent.

Bond yields, which have fallen to historic lows with the pandemic in developed countries, especially the United States, continue to rise again, suppressing emerging currencies, including the TL. The interest rate decision announced by the CBRT on Thursday this week is being monitored as a direction-maker.
