Interior Minister: “If political ban decision on IMAMOGLU is approved, I will dismiss him from office”

Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu made a statement about IBB President Ekrem Imamoğlu, who was sentenced to 2 years, 7 months and 15 days in prison for allegedly insulting YSK members and whose political ban came up on the agenda. “If the appeal and the Supreme Court approve the decision, I will dismiss,” Soylu said.

“*Our Constitution has given an authority to Internal Affairs. If a person commits a crime, we have the right to dismiss that person. The law has divided it into two separate parts: One is crimes having to do with terror and the other one is problems arising from tasks…

*There is no terrorism-related process in this case. A trustee will not be appointed here. And I have no authority to dismiss said person. The reason is there is no terrorism or abuse of office here. However, if the punishment he received for insult is approved by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, I will dismiss him.”
