ONLINE_SHOPPINGIf this comment was to be made decades ago, the reply would be “Not really” as Turks were considered to be rather delayed in regards to technology and innovation, at the time.

But after decades, the reality turned out to be quite different as was observed with mobile GSM sales in the first place. In fact, Turkey is now known to be one of the best and fastest growing markets as far as mobile telephones are concerned.

Regarding computers and similar equipment , Turks showed a great interest in such high-tech goods and also became very loyal users of the internet, in a very fast manner.

That was not all though obviously as it is now confirmed that Turkey’s e-commerce is among the fastest growing as compared to the rest of the world. In fact, it is reported that the total revenue earned through online payments has increased by 52 percent to 16.9 billion Turkish Liras in the year’s first nine months compared to the same period last year.

It  was also reported that “Almost one in every five people in Turkey is  now an e-commerce customer online,” at Cardist 2011 International Card and Smart Technologies Exhibition & Summit held in Istanbul.  We also know that Turkey ranks among the biggest markets in Europe regarding online commerce.

The number of Internet transactions has increased by 37 percent in the first three quarters compared to the same period in 2010, reaching 91.4 million transactions.

Thus, to answer the question “Is internet sector in Turkey a promising business as far as e-commerce is concerned?” above figures would be quite meaningful.

One thing obvious is Turks are hungry for technology and have proved – especially the young generation – they like to go for the new.

Therefore it would not be any less profitable to start internet and e-trade business in this country than it would be to start it in USA or England and like wise.

We also know that several companies such as TRENDYOL (internet shopping site) have been bought by foreigners for huge amounts of money, only recently.
