FESTIVALS IN TURKEY

While festivals in Turkey have been canceled repeatedly under various pretexts, a formation called the “Islamic Movement for Defense” claimed that the banning of “Million Fest Fethiye” and other festivals was due to its own initiatives, and decried the cancellation of Fanta Fest in Malatya. Fanta Fest 2022, which travels around Turkey, started on August 18

In the last four months, concerts and festivals of some artists have been banned by governorates for various reasons after Islamist groups targeted them.

Famous festivals such as Anadolu Fest in Eskişehir and Zeytinli Rock Festival in Balıkesir were banned, while concerts by artists such as Apolas Lermi, Melek Mosso and Gülşen were also canceled. And most recently, the news was received that the Million Fest Fethiye to be held in Muğla between September 1 and 4, was also cancelled.

While the reactions to the cancellation of the festivals were growing, a formation called ‘Islamic Movement for Defense’ suggested that the cancellation decisions were taken thanks to their own initiatives. The spokesperson of the formation stated on his Twitter account that Million Fest was the 14th festival they had had canceled, saying that their ’new goal’ was to ensure cancellation of the Fanta Youth Festival to be held in Malatya. He also said, “”Dear citizens of Malatya, now it’s your turn. Call the number of the governorship and ask for the cancellation of the Malatya Fanta Youth Festival, which will start tomorrow (August 25th). It’s your legal right.”
