Another important threshold is being crossed in the process of normalization of Turkish-Israeli relations. The Israeli Foreign Ministry Committee has decided to appoint Irit Lillian as Ambassador to Ankara.

After the mutual decision of the two countries to appoint an ambassador, the name was announced on the Israeli side. The nomination committee of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted the name of the current charge d’affaires in Ankara, Irit Lillian, to the government for approval.

In order for Lillian’s official appointment to take place, she must first receive approval by the government in Israel. Then, approval will be requested from Turkey.

After these processes are completed, Irit Lillian will present her letter of confidence to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and thus officially take up her post as Israel’s Ambassador to Ankara.

The process of determining the Turkish Ambassador to Tel Aviv has also come to an end. After the President makes the final decision, the Turkish Ambassador to Israel will be announced. The leaders of the two countries will also hold a meeting in New York this week.

The level of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Israel was decelerated in 2018 after the events in Gaza.
