Istanbul experiences heavy rainfall leading to flooding: Two dead
The rain, which began in the northern part of the city, intensified in Arnavutköy and Başakşehir. According to reports on media, the downpour led to water accumulations on the roads, making it difficult for vehicles to move.
In response to reports of flooding in many homes and businesses in Arnavutköy, numerous firefighting teams were dispatched to the area. Firefighting vehicles were also sent from other districts to the region.
Due to the rainfall, vehicles became stranded on the roads in Arnavutköy and Başakşehir. Some drivers were unable to progress and waited in the emergency lanes, while some citizens attempted to rescue their vehicles by pushing them.
PEOPLE TRAPPED IN LIBRARY
Firefighting teams were dispatched to the Başakşehir National Library due to reports of people being trapped inside because of the rain. Those inside the library were rescued
Başakşehir Mayor Yasin Kartoğlu, shared a message on his social media account, saying “Due to the heavy rainfall, all our citizens who were trapped in the Başakşehir National Community Center have been evacuated. Our neighbors who we hosted in our municipality will be taken to their homes with our service vehicles. Our teams continue their work throughout the district.”
TWO CASUALTIES
Meanwhile, the Istanbul Governorship announced that one person had died due to being swept away by floodwaters in Başakşehir. The Governorship later released a new statement indicating that the number of casualties had risen to two.
