IETT bus falls into the sea at Eminönü district of Istanbul

BUS FALLS INTO SEA AT EMINONU

An IETT bus parked at Eminönü (Istanbul) slid into the sea due to the driver’s failure to pull the handbrake before leaving the vehicle. Police and firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene, and it was reported that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. IETT General Manager stated that the driver’s public transportation certificate had been seized and could be revoked based on a re-evaluation.

The incident occurred around 08:10 within the IETT Garage in Eminönü. According to the information received, the parked IETT bus started moving for an unknown reason. The bus, which started sliding, then fell into the sea. The bus remained on the water’s surface for a while before eventually sinking.

Following the notification, police, firefighting teams, and a crane were dispatched to the scene. Cranes owned by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) were also sent to the area to support the operations. The teams continue to work at the scene.

BUS DRIVER: “WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENED ONCE THE BUS IS OUT OF WATER”

The bus driver, Ramazan Şahin, stated to journalists that he came to the vehicle 20 minutes after parking it. He said, “The vehicle was parked here. My shift was over, and I was going to get on the bus. I pressed the remote control, and then the bus started moving on its own. We will see what happened once the car is out.”

STATEMENT FROM İBB

In a statement issued by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), it was indicated that the bus slid into the sea due to the driver’s failure to engage the handbrake before leaving the vehicle. İBB reported that there were no injuries or casualties in the incident.
