Istanbul’s population reaches 15 million 840 thousand people

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya announced on his social media account that the population of Istanbul is 15 million 840 thousand 900 people, an increase of 378 thousand 448 people compared to last year.

The governor said, “The population of our city increased by 378,448 compared to last year and became 15,840,900. 18.71% of the population of our country lives in our province. The number of our compatriots per km2 is 3,049.”

This is only normal as commented by many experts because there has been a tremendous movement of citizens from towns in Anatolia mainly to big cities and Istanbul, in particular. The reason is observed to be lack of opportunities to survive due to lack of jobs and poor economy at said places.
