Latest situation in Gaza: Prisoner swap between Hamas and Israel

Hamas has released 12 Thai and 13 Israeli prisoners as part of a prisoner swap. Israel also released 39 Palestinians.

The BBC quoted embassy officials as saying that they were on their way to pick up the captives, but the whereabouts of the hostages were not specified. “As a result of Egypt’s intensive efforts, 12 Thai citizens have been released,” an Egyptian statement said.

The release of Thai citizens is not part of the agreement brokered by Qatar between Israel and Hamas. According to Israeli state television KAN, Hamas handed over 13 Israelis to the Egyptian side.

According to media, the Israeli army also intervened with tear gas bombs against the Palestinians waiting for the prisoners scheduled for release today in front of the Ofer Prison.

Israel also released 39 Palestinian prisoners, 24 of whom were women and 15 were children under the age of 18.
