MUST : … meli / … malı

Examples

I go to the cinema – Sinemaya gider-im
I must go to the cinema – Sinemaya git-meli-yim

You earn a lot of Money – Bir sürü para kazanırsın
You must earn a lot of Money – Bir sürü para kazan-malı-sın

He goes to school every day – O her gün okula gider
He must go to school every day – O her gün okula git-meli (dir)
She, It (same as above)

We stay at home every weekend – Her hafta sonu evde kalırız
We must stay at home this weekend – Bu hafta sonu evde kal-malı-yız

You work hard to buy a house – Bir ev satın almak için sıkı çalışırsın (çalışıyorsun)
You must work hard to finish the Project – Projeyi bitirmek için sıkı çalış-malı-sınız

They speak English to serve the tourists – Turistlere hizmet etmek için İngilizce konuşurlar
They must speak English to serve the tourists – Turistlere …… için İngilizce konuş-malı-lar

Interrogative Form

I go to the cinema – Sinemaya gider-im
Must go to the cinema – Sinemaya gitmeli miyim? (or Sinemaya mı gitmeliyim?)

You earn a lot of Money – Bir sürü para kazanırsın
Must You must earn a lot of Money – Bir sürü para kazanmalı mısın? (or ….. para mı kazanmalısın?)

He goes to school every day – O her gün okula gider
Must he go to school every day – O her gün okula gitmeli mi(dir)? (or ….. okula mı gitmelidir?)
She, It (same as above)

We stay at home every weekend – Her hafta sonu evde kalırız
Must we stay at home this weekend – Bu hafta sonu evde kalmalı-mıyız (or evde mi kalmalıyız?

FYI: Second alternative structures sound much better in many situations

Negative Form

I go to the cinema – Sinemaya gider-im
I must not go to the cinema – Sinemaya git-ME-meli-yim (ME … showing negative usage)

You earn a lot of Money – Bir sürü para kazanırsın
You must not earn a lot of Money – Bir sürü para kazan-MA-malı-sın (MA .. showing negative situation)

He goes to school every day – O her gün okula gider
He must not go to school every day – O her gün okula git-ME-meli (dir)
She, It (same as above)

We stay at home every weekend – Her hafta sonu evde kalırız
We must not stay at home this weekend – Bu hafta sonu evde kal-MA-malı-yız
