Mandatory Camera and Tracking Systems Now Required in Vehicles

New Traffic Regulation Published in Official Gazette

A major update to Turkey’s Highway Traffic Regulation has just been announced, and it brings important changes for vehicle safety. According to the new regulation published in the Official Gazette, certain vehicles will now be required to have an in-vehicle tracking system, interior and exterior cameras, a recording device, and an emergency button.

What Does the New Rule Mean?

This new mandate aims to enhance road safety and ensure better monitoring of vehicles, especially those used for public service or transportation. All vehicles falling under the scope of this updated regulation will have to comply with these new equipment requirements.

When Does It Start?

The implementation timeline varies depending on the age of the vehicle. Newer vehicles (models from 2023 to 2025) will need to meet these requirements starting from their first inspection after January 1, 2026. Older models will follow in subsequent years, with the oldest vehicles (2017 and earlier) having until after January 1, 2028.

Special Transition for School Buses

There’s also a temporary exemption for school buses registered between February 18 and October 1, 2025. If they already have camera systems installed under the previous regulation, they won’t need to update to the new system until after their first inspection following December 31, 2027.
