IMAMOGLU, the mayor of Istanbul made an important speech on his visit to Izmir to examine the earthquake incident and consequences thereafter. The mayor stated that they cared about the issue of the earthquake Council to be created in cities. Here are the views the mayor shared about some incidents on Turkey’s agenda.

“President Erdogan explains and says they have built 975 thousand buildings in 18 years via TOKI’. OK, fine, but he has also made a statement saying there were 6 million 750 thousand in Turkey that needed to be strengthened and strengthened… Now when you look at this figure, do you know what we need? Looking at 18 years of evaluation, we need another 110 years.

How many more earthquakes will this country experience in 110 years? Who would above achievement help? No body. So this needs to be solved at the highest level as quickly as possible. We have to have a mechanism that not only protects the right to property, but also protects the right to life as much as it does. We have to make arrangements accordingly.

This is a social mobilization. We care about the earthquake council issue. This issue should relate to no party, no politics and no opinion. Issues such as wisdom, science and technology are involved. We will be together. No one should be afraid to get together.

If we are going to get together and talk about the earthquake, for God’s sake, is there a single executive in this country who can’t sit at this table. After the lives that have gone, we are all sad, we shed tears. The earthquake is the first issue of our country, Istanbul in the first place, Izmir today, and perhaps another city tomorrow.”

IMAMOGLU also criticized the government over the Canal Istanbul agenda. He strongly reacted to the fact that the government held Canal Istanbul Project on the agenda permanently and shared following:  “No one has the right to tire our cities or our country with empty agendas. Can I tell you an empty agenda? Canal Istanbul, for example. Empty agenda. We give a thousand reasons why it shouldn’t be done. No one can say a single reason to do it. But it’s on the agenda every day. What was the nationalization of some roads in Istanbul, last week?

So it is an empty agenda. In that respect, earthquake is our main issue. All local governments, institutions and organizations of Turkey should be in solidarity in this regard. Turkey’s ministry, the Presidency should be together. We have to solve this problem. Then we can look to a steeper and more fearless future.”
