Mehmet Ali Birand, veteran Turkish journalist passes on

Mehmet Ali BIRAND, a veteran and one of the most popular Turkish journalists has passed on in Istanbul, following a surgery.

The journalist had had a a stent replacement surgery at the American Hospital in Istanbul on January 16th.

The demise of Mr. Birand at the age of 72 was announced by his son and caused much sorrow among his friends, media members and many citizens.

It was reported earlier that the journalist had been receiving cancer treatment for a long period.

Birand who began his career at daily Millyet in 1964 was taken for a legendary figure in Turkish journalism, by many.
