Minister: Tender for 3rd Istanbul airport to be launched in one week

The air passenger traffic to Istanbul has increased so much in the last decade that 2 international airports namely Atatürk Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport have turned to be insufficient for a successful operation.

This being the case, the government has decided to build a third airport with an initial capacity for 90 million passengers per year, extending eventually to 150 million passengers.

The new airport is planned to be a much bigger and more modern one to meet all the requirements for tor ender most successful services.

In fact, the tender for this airport is scheduled to be launched in one week time, as declared by Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yıldırım.

The Minister has announced this important piece of news for Istanbul at an Istanbul meeting on state-run postal services and said;

“I think we will announce the tender for the third airport in one week. The project will be Turkey’s largest public-private sector operation”.

The authorities are working on fine tuning the project, and an announcement in the Official Gazette may be published by the middle of the next week as reported by sources.

On the other hand it is also reported that foreign firms are looking for local partners for the Project.
