Mehmet Şimşek: There is no option left except to return to rational ground

Mehmet Şimşek, who was appointed as the Minister of Treasury and Finance, took over from Nureddin Nebati at a ceremony held at the ministry. In his first statement, Minister Şimşek said, “Turkey has no option left except to return to a rational ground. A rule-based Turkish economy will be important in achieving the long-awaited prosperity. We will prioritize macro financial stability.”

Mehmet Şimşek, who was appointed as the Minister of Treasury and Finance by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, took over the post from Nureddin Nebati at a ceremony held at the ministry.

 “COMPLIANCE WITH INT’L NORMS WILL BE OUR MAIN GOAL”

Simsek said “Turkey has no choice but to return to a rational basis,” he said, emphasizing transparency and predictability, adding following evaluations:

“We will increase social welfare. Transparency, predictability, compliance with international norms will be our main goal in achieving this goal. Turkey has no option left except to return to a rational ground. The fight against inflation will be our basic policy.

The main goal of our government is to increase social welfare. We will start our medium-term program studies without wasting time. It is of vital importance for our country to reduce inflation to single digits in the medium term. We will work day and night to raise the flag that we have taken over even higher today. God willing, we will all come out of this process successfully.”

Mehmet Şimşek announced that providing support to the Central Bank to fight inflation will be their main policy.The new Minister said, “I know that I have been given a heavy task. God willing, we will all come out of this process together, successfully.”
