META NEW PLATFORM

As the trend of social media platforms requesting paid subscriptions from users continues to grow, Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, has made a notable move.

A prominent U.S. newspaper, has announced that Meta is preparing to introduce a paid subscription system for users of its platforms, Instagram and Facebook.

In the initial phase, it is reported that Meta will charge users $14 per month for this subscription method, which will be applied in Europe (approximately 385 TL). The newspaper, after examining Meta’s official correspondence, stated that $14 would be charged for Instagram, while $17 would be charged for both Facebook and Instagram.

The European Union had previously imposed a ban on using individuals’ personal information for advertising in member countries. Meta, unable to reach an agreement with the EU, has announced that it will attempt to circumvent this law with this subscription system. It was also noted that Meta presented this plan to EU officials.

Therefore, if the EU accepts Meta’s plan, European social media users will be able to use Instagram and Facebook for free by providing their data. Otherwise, social media users will have to pay for an ad-free application experience.

Meta’s plan also includes subscription fees. The Facebook or Instagram subscription on a desktop computer is set at 10 euros (approximately 287 TL), and if another account is added to this subscription, an additional 6 euros will be required. On mobile devices, the fee will be 13 euros per month.
