Milk production over 7 mln tons in Turkey

Turkey produced more than 7 million tons of milk in 2011, the statistics authority, TurkStat, said on Friday.

TurkStat made public milk production statistics in December 2011, and said milk production was up 4.9 percent year-on-year in 2011 and reached 7,073,739 tons.

Turkey had produced 6,745,011 tons of milk in 2010.

The statistics authority said drinking milk production was up 6.9 percent to 1,164,748 tons from 1,090,605 tons in a year.

Cheese production reached 518,850 tons with a 9.7 percent year-on-year rise in 2011, whereas Turkey produced 1,006,791 tons of yoghurt with a 10.8 percent rise and 459,075 tons of buttermilk drink with a 15.4 percent rise.

In December 2011, Turkey’s milk production was up 10.7 percent month-on-month and reached 586,867 tons.
