Minister Bayraktar Announces 20-Year LNG Supply Deal Between BOTAŞ and Mercuria

Long-Term LNG Agreement Signed in New York

Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that a landmark agreement has been signed between BOTAŞ and Mercuria. The deal covers an annual supply of around 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent LNG over a 20-year period, totaling nearly 70 billion cubic meters.

Bayraktar shared the news through his official social media account, underlining the importance of this step for Turkey’s energy future.

LNG Trade on the Agenda of Erdoğan and Trump Meeting

In his statement, Minister Bayraktar highlighted that natural gas trade would be one of the key topics in the upcoming meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump at the White House. He noted that this long-term LNG supply deal marks a significant milestone for both countries’ energy cooperation.

Deliveries Starting in 2026

According to Bayraktar, deliveries will begin in 2026. The agreement ensures that BOTAŞ will receive LNG equivalent to about 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, sourced from loading terminals in the United States and regasification facilities across Turkey, Europe, and North Africa.

Strengthening Supply Security and Price Stability

Minister Bayraktar emphasized that this deal not only enhances BOTAŞ’s position in global LNG trade but also supports Turkey’s vision of long-term supply security, price stability, and diversification of energy resources. He wished the agreement to bring benefits to Turkey and all stakeholders involved.
