Positive Signs from the CBRT’s Sectoral Inflation Expectations Survey

Turkey’s Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek, has shared his thoughts on the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey’s (CBRT) latest “Sectoral Inflation Expectations” survey. In a post on his social media account, Minister Şimşek emphasized that the ongoing decline in inflation expectations is helping to support the country’s disinflation process.

A Clear Drop in Expectations Compared to Last Year

According to Şimşek, both the real sector and households have significantly revised their 12-month forward inflation expectations downward compared to the same period last year. The minister highlighted that inflation expectations from the real sector have dropped by 16 points to 37.7%, while household expectations decreased by 19 points to 54.1%. Meanwhile, market participants’ expectations are currently at 22.8%.

“Inflation Expectations Are Improving”

In his statement on platform X, Şimşek noted that the improved outlook is a positive sign for the Turkish economy. “Inflation expectations are improving,” he wrote, adding that the downward trend in expectations reflects growing confidence in the government’s disinflationary policies and monetary tightening efforts.

What This Means for Turkey’s Economic Outlook

The reduction in inflation expectations is seen as a critical step toward stabilizing the economy and restoring purchasing power. As businesses and consumers adjust their forecasts, it can lead to more stable pricing behavior and support the Central Bank’s efforts to bring inflation under control.

The statement and data come at a crucial time, signaling that recent economic policies may be gaining traction in the fight against inflation.
