Ministry Cracks Down on Unjust Housing Price Hikes Online
Turkey’s Ministry of Trade has issued a strong response to unreasonable price hikes in online real estate listings. Twenty-one property owners were fined a total of 4.2 million TL for inflating home prices without legitimate economic justification.
According to a statement shared on social media by Deputy Trade Minister Mahmut Gürcan, the Ministry has been closely monitoring property listings that reflect price increases inconsistent with the country’s economic indicators. This recent move follows a regulation change at the end of May that extended responsibility beyond real estate agents to include property owners themselves.
After conducting thorough reviews, including public reports and digital analysis, authorities determined that 21 individuals had deliberately raised their property prices without proper cause. Each was fined 200,000 TL.
Gürcan emphasized that the Ministry will continue inspections to ensure a fair, competitive, and stable real estate market. The goal, he said, is to prevent consumer harm and maintain transparency in online property platforms.
The Ministry also stressed its commitment to ongoing monitoring of digital listings and stated that any practices that distort market balance will face swift action.
