Mobile telephone rental market grows due to economic crisis
The prices of electronic products, which have increased by 35 percent in the world, have doubled 3 times owing to the increase in exchange rates in Turkey. The citizens whose purchasing power is falling have started to rent mobile phones now.
With rising inflation and falling purchasing power, citizens who find it difficult to buy electronic products in particular, are turning to renting. The rental sector, which has become the choice of those who want to keep up with the developing technology, is expanding its product range for increasing needs every day. The citizens who cannot keep up with the electronic device prices that have multiplied with the effect of the dollar exchange rate, prefer the rental method from mobile phone to computer, from electrical household appliances to mother and child products.
3 FOLD INCREASE
Noting that the interest in the sector is increasing day by day a professional in the sector has stated that there has been a 3-fold increase in number of those who prefer to rent instead of buying, especially in the 1.5-year period after the pandemic. Noting that companies, in addition to individuals, are also turning to renting electronic products, Ventura said that 60 percent of the rental segment consists of men between the ages of 20-40. “Due to the labor cost, raw material and transportation prices, as well as the chip crisis, there has been a 30-35 percent increase in electronic product prices in the world. In Turkey, the high dollar exchange rate has increased prices by 2.5-3 times,” he said, noting that for this reason people were starting to turn to renting. He also stated that the share of mobile phones among the rented products was 60 percent, while 20 percent consisted of tablets and computers, and 20 percent consists of mother-baby and home and office appliances. He pointed out that choosing to rent instead of buying was also important for a sustainable economy.
