"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

mothers-dayIt is reported that in the last 5 years Turks spent 2,6 billion liras with credit cards. There are many opinions in Turkey however that this special day has been transformed into a means of commercial opportunity as is the case all over the world.

Companies in their concerned ad campaigns every year, claim they have the most beautiful presents for mothers. They use a language or methods to address subconscious of people and try to impose them the only way to show our love to mothers is through consumption (buying presents/spending money).

It is reported that 356 million Liras were spent on mothers day in 2006 whereas this figure went up to 682 million liras in 2010, reaching a total of 2,6 billion liras within the last 5 years.

In a country with a low average of GDP such motives to enhance comsumption has been quite provocative for consumers and put millions in a difficult situation with unpaid credit card debts to banks.

It is a fact that this situation has contributed to some social negativities often expperienced in the country, recently.

Some consumer unions even warn consumers to have control over their such spendings to prevent further unpleasant financial difficulities such as unpaid debts.
