POWER OUTAGE ON AGENDA TURKEY

2  large companies, namely Kartonsan and Ege Industries have announced a temporary decommissioning of production due to the restriction on natural gas supplies. The flow to gas power plants was reduced on Thursday after Iran stopped shipping gas to Turkey at a time when natural gas consumption was increasing due to the cold; it was also announced that the use of natural gas and electricity by large-scale industry would be limited.

While 40 percent of the natural gas used by factories had been restricted since January 21 due to the energy problem in the manufacturing industry, it was also announced that electricity cuts that would last for 3 to 4 days starting January 24 and would be applied in all Organized Industrial Zones (OSB) in Turkey.

In a statement made by Kartonsan to KAP regarding the natural gas crisis, it was stated that the company used natural gas in its production activities and said: “Due to the fact that there is a shortage of supplies on a national scale for the supply of natural gas from abroad, restrictions have been imposed on the amount of natural gas supplied by the supplier. Effective January 21, production has been temporarily decommissioned until the natural gas supply restriction is lifted on our Cardboard Production Line No. 1.”

EGE Industry on the other hand said in a statement to KAP that they had received notification that there would be a 48-hour power outage in the Aegean Free Zone between January 25 and 27. It went on to say, “Due to the power outage that will occur, production will not be able to be made in our free zone factory.”

Industrialists very disappointed

Speaking about the issue, President of the Antalya Organized Industrial Zone, said: “We have many orders contracted. Our companies will suffer great losses and losses. Agriculture, manufacturing and logistics sectors are vital sectors with daily rotating, daily needs. The disruption of these sectors may lead to a major supply shortage in the country’s era. In addition, the cessation of production in the country causes infestation in society, but it can also fuel stockism. It should be remembered that such uncertainties can have irreparable consequences in inflation.”
