Nevsehir Castle and Kayaşehir are starting to welcome their guests with their new face after the cleaning and arrangement works. A ceremony was held in Nevşehir with the participation of Minister Ersoy for the opening of “KAYASEHIR” to tourism. The site carved from rock was coincidentally unearthed during the urban transformation works in 2014.

Minister of culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy made a statement saying Nevsehir Castle and Kayaşehir were starting to welcome their guests with their new face after the cleaning and arrangement works.

Minister Ersoy speaking at the ceremony held between the walls of Nevşehir Castle, said Nevşehir had another important tourism center in the 66th year of being a county.

Kayaşehir is also a unique tourism asset that emerged during the cleaning of the old settlement areas in the region, Minister Ersoy said, adding that archaeological excavations in the area yielded data on the world’s largest underground settlement area.

Minister Ersoy said, “In Turkey, it is possible to encounter historical values in every area hit by digging. You excavate to lay water pipe, the ancient city comes out from under. You tunnel through the rail system, and there are ancient wrecks and treasures beneath the sea. You start building a hotel and you come face to face with one of the most unique mosaics in the world. We are so used to the emergence of centuries-old civilization legacies from every inch of land hit by pickaxes in our country that we are no longer surprised”.

In the first stage of the cleaning work carried out at the 120 thousand square meters area, the monastery dated to the 6th century and the Byzantine Church made in the 12th century came to the surface. Minister Ersoy also said “waterways, rock carved tombs, tunnels, sheltering places such as military, religious and social living areas were unearthed”.

The Minister said, “A total of 1271 pieces of historical work obtained in the field of studies, is under protection in Nevşehir Museum”.

“This city is one of the most special regions of Turkey and the world, with its cultural texture and its enormous riches at the point of the history of civilizations. As a matter of fact, today we are together on the occasion of bringing a unique cultural presence in the world to the country’s tourism. Nevşehir Castle and Kayaşehir are starting to welcome their guests with their new face after the cleaning and arrangement works. The land of Anatolia continues to generously share with humanity the countless memories it has accumulated as a full and complete witness of human history. We are working day and night to bring these values to our country, to share them with the world and to deliver them to our future generations by protecting them. Nevşehir Castle has now gained a very different identity with Kayaşehir and the region has become a serious attraction center
