ANTHRAX OUTBREAK

As the world struggles to overcome the effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, growing concerns surround a new outbreak of disease. Scientists have announced the identification of anthrax, a disease typically found in African countries, in Europe, leading to multiple deaths in a small town.

As one global health crisis subsides, another emerges, causing significant anxiety with the detection of a new disease in Europe. Anthrax, first identified in 1752, has now been reported in various cities and regions in Zambia as of November 20, affecting 684 individuals. The virus is noted to harm both humans and livestock.

Anthrax, which can be transmitted from animals to humans and is exacerbated by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, was last observed in Romania during the summer months.

While the disease has not shown significant spread outside Africa at present, the World Health Organization has identified the at-risk regions as Zambia, Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, and Namibia. Authorities have also emphasized that improperly buried animal remains along riverbanks could contribute to the spread of the disease.

This illness, which can be transmitted through contaminated food or contact with infected animals, exhibits various symptoms. Experts warn that consuming the meat of an infected livestock without proper cooking can lead to the transmission of the disease.

SOME SYMPTOMS OF ANTHRAX

– Shortness of breath
– Nausea
– Sore throat, fever, fatigue
– Muscle pain
– Headache
– Diarrhea
