New record in Istanbul’s inflation

The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) has published the retail and wholesale price indices for September 2022. According to ITO data, wholesale prices in Istanbul increased by 107.42 percent year-on-year in September.

Accordingly, the rate of change compared to the same month of the previous year, showing the price changes between September 2021 and September 2022, was 107.42 percent based on the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) 1995-based Wage Earners’ Livelihood Index and the Wholesale Price Index increase was 98.17 percent.

Thus, the increase in wholesale prices, which went up by 99.91 percent year-on-year in August, exceeded 100 percent in September.

MONTHLY INCREASE EXCEEDED 6 PERCENT

In September 2022 in Istanbul; The Istanbul Wage Earners’ Livelihood Index which is an indicator of retail price movements, increased by 6.06 percent compared to the previous month, and the Wholesale Prices index, which reflects wholesale price movements, increased by 2.94 percent.

In September 2022, retail prices increased by 53.23 percent in other expenditures, 9.66 percent in cultural, educational and entertainment expenditures, 9.54 percent in household goods expenditures and 8.63 percent in clothing expenditures compared to the previous month.

FUEL AND ENERGY ARE AMONG THE MOST INCREASED

There was an increase of 8.37 percent in health and personal care expenditures, 6.43 percent in housing expenditures, and 3.64 percent in food expenditures. A decrease of -0.78 percent was observed in the transportation and communication expenditures group.

In September 2022, 8.42 percent increase was observed in wholesale prices of fuel and energy materials group, percent compared to the previous month.
