Turkish Minister: Istanbul will become a global internet center

Minister Yıldırım has stated that ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has decided to divide their global administration into three main headquarters. Yıldırım has also said that the corporation has decided to divide operations amongst three headquarters in Turkey, Singapore and California. ICANN is a non-profit corporation which oversees the Internet address system.

Pro-Kurdish party leader: Letters have reached PKK leader Öcalan

Peace and Democracy Party co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş told reporters letters sent to Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the PKK by the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), the alleged urban wing of the the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and its Europe branch, were delivered through officials on March 15.

Imprisoned PKK leader orders militants to retreat from Turkey before June 16th

Öcalan is reported to have said he is willing to announce a ceasefire before the Nevruz festivities, celebrated on March 21 and given the deadline of June 16 for the end of the second stage on which date he expects PKK militants to retreat from Turkey

The Turkish main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) have announced that they would be ready to support the ongoing peace talks between the government and the imprisoned leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party provided the process is be conducted legally, transparently, with honesty and without secret agendas.

Turkish government rakes in $3.5 bln in power grid tenders

Turkey has raised $3.5 billion by selling its four remaining electricity grids (Ayedaş, Toroslar, Van Gölü and Dicle) completing the last stage of a complete privatization of the electricity distribution sector. Enerjisa owned by Turkey’s second-largest company, Sabancı, and German energy giant E.ON and already the operator of Başkent Elektrik – the electricity provider of a region comprising seven cities including the Turkish capital of Ankara – won the tender for the two largest grids.

Finance Minister says Turkey Europe’s biggest in agriculture

Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek has said that Turkey ranks the first in Europe and seventh in the world in the aspect of agricultural growth. The minister Simsek has also stated that total support reserved for agriculture was envisioned to be increased 17.8 percent from 11.1 billion Turkish lira to 13.1 billion TL in 2013.

WTO Director says Turkey now shapes international platform

World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy has stated in a speech delivered at Istanbul Bilgi University that Turkey and other developing nations now have more influence and play a more shaping role in international platforms.

Qatar invites Turkish businessmen to evaluate opportunities in local projcets.

Head of a Qatari business association has invited Turkish companies to operate in his country and said “We have allocated $100 billion for the infrastructure projects in our country for the next ten years. We invite Turkish companies for these projects. Turkish companies will succeed in these projects with their experience. At the moment 35 Turkish companies are actively working in Qatar.”

Turkey ranks second in number of credit cards

Visa Europe Regional General Manager Berna Ülman has stated that usage of credit cards has increased exponentially in 2012 and this has enabled them to end the year as market leaders. She has also said “Visa Turkey plays an important role within Visa Europe and In 2012, Visa brand cards accounted for 18 percent of all consumption expenditures in Turkey including cash transactions.”

26 women killed in Turkey in first two months of 2013

During a press meeting in the Parliament, Aylin Nazlıaka (Republican People’s Party Ankara deputy) has said 26 women and three children has been killed as a result of domestic violence within the first two months of 2013 in Turkey, while 22 women were raped in the same period
