Turkish PM says Turkey may have 3 polls in 2014

While speaking to a group of journalists on his official visit to Washington Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed readiness to bring his party’s own draft Constitution to a people’s vote in 2014. All along the efforts spent at the parliament to write a new Constitution, no consensus has been reached so far. On the other hand it is known that the PM is very eager on considering a presidential system which is not favored by the opposition at all.

Erdoğan clearly expressed that the government would go to referendum if the required] number were reached. He also said “Three elections may come in 2014”, referring to the fact that local elections will be held in March 2014 and presidential elections in August 2014.

FTA between Turkey and Korea has come into force on May 1 2013

A FTA between Turkey and South Korea has opened Turkey’s way to negotiate on the exchange of services and bilateral investments. It is reported that the agreement includes many firsts

The current trade volume between the two countries reached $6 billion last year, but exports from South Korea to Turkey accounted for $5.6 billion which clearly pictures a negative situation for Turkey.

New-generation agreements no longer merely encompass the exchange of goods, and the Turkish-Korean deal also includes several extras, such as a framework deal, a deal on the exchange of goods and two others on the exchange of services and bilateral investments

PM Erdoğan says reform in top UN security body much required

Erdoğan said destiny of humanity was in the hands of only five permanent members of the Security Council and issued a strong call for reform in the United Nations Security Council, during a meeting with the representatives of Turkish and Muslim communities in San Francisco on Sunday.

He went on to add “All members of the Security Council should be temporary and they should be rotating once a year or two and there should be representatives of all continents and religions in the council.”

He said “Today, the destiny of Syria is in the hands of two countries, and Syria cannot be intervened in. Can you believe that so far nearly 100,000 people have been killed, and 283 missiles have been launched on them. Planes keep bombing and tanks keep coming at people. Only in my country, currently 300,000 Syrians are staying.”

Energy Minister says there is no business for companies that work with Greeks

Energy Minister Taner Yıldız said “Both sides have equal rights to the natural gas in Cyprus. In the area there is no business for companies that work with the Greeks”.

Turkey once again showed its decisiveness on the Cyprus issue and this time from the United States. The American authorities questioning Turkey’s authority in its searches for natural gas in the Mediterranean were given the message  “both sides were not defined as having equal shared rights to the natural gas as well as equal distribution of the profits was not legitimate.”

The Turkish council also made it known that Turkey would not contract companies that work together with the South Cyprus Greek government.
