Number of Russian tourists coming to Turkey increases by 77 percent

The number of Russian tourists coming to Turkey in May increased by 77.5% compared to the same period last year. However, the number of Russian tourists coming to Turkey in May 2023 is about one-third less than before the coronavirus pandemic, that is, compared to the figures of May 2019.

According to the Russian media, the Russian Tour Operators Association (ATOR) has published the data on the subject with reference to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The number of Russian tourists coming to Turkey in May increased by 77.5% compared to the same period last year. However, this number is about one-third less than before the coronavirus pandemic, that is, compared to the figures of May 2019.

According to the data of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 4 million 500 thousand 242 foreign tourists visited our country in May of this year. In the number of tourists, Russia (640 thousand 844 people) ranked first, followed by Germany (617 thousand 617) and the United Kingdom (452 thousand 724).

ATOR noted following in regards: “There were not enough flights to Turkey last year due to the ‘Air sanctions’ of Europe and the United States, and the carrier Turkish Airlines did not manage to increase the volume of its flight program to Russia.”
