Pamukkale ranks second after Hagia Sophia among most visited ancient spots in Turkey

Pamukkale Hierapolis which is one of the most important tourist sites in Turkey and included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, passed Topkapı Museum among the most visited archaeological sites (paid) after Hagia Sophia, in Turkey.

It is reported that Pamukkale, world-famous for its white travertine is frequented by local and foreign tourists every season. The ancient pool of Cleopatra, the ancient theatre, the gate of Hell and the tomb of Saint Phlippus, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus are some of the spots that draw many tourists from all over the world. The place has been providing healing to people for 2,500 years with its thermal waters.

Pamukkale (Hierapolis ruins) has passed Topkapı Museum on the list for the most visited (paid) Museum and ruins in Turkey in 2019.

Pamukkale which is included on UNESCO list, in both natural and cultural categories was visited by 2 million 189 thousand 529 people in 2018. In 2019, this figure reached 2 million 557 thousand 868 visitors. This was an increase of about 17 per cent. In 2019, 3 million 727 thousand 361 people visited Hagia Sophia Museum, which ranked 1st among paid museums and ruins, while 2 million 557 thousand 868 people visited Pamukkale, which was placed 2nd. The Topkapı Museum, was placed 3rd with 2 million 364 thousand 946 visitors.
