According to reports in the British press, the incident occurred on August 23. The plane, which took off from Birmingham Airport, was heading towards Antalya. Passengers said they had encountered great turbulence. The plane made an emergency landing in the Greek city of Thessaloniki, passengers were taken off the plane, ambulances were present on the runway.
One of the passengers on the plane told the British Birmingham Live channel, “We all noticed that something was wrong at the front of the plane. We thought a passenger might have been injured during the turbulence. We were then told we were going to land in Greece because of the emergency. But information about why it happened was not shared.”
AN EXPLANATION CAME FROM THE AIRLINE
After the plane landed in Thessaloniki, passengers noticed that the pilot was ill, while the pilot was taken to the hospital by ambulance. It turned out that the pilot fainted during the flight at an altitude of about 30 thousand ft.
A spokesman for the airline Jet2 made a statement on the matter. This person said, “Flight LS1239 from Birmingham to Antalya was diverted to Thessaloniki Airport as a precautionary measure due to one of the pilots feeling unwell, on August 23. From here, the journey to Antalya continued. We are sorry for the unforeseen delays.”
