Passenger Bus Collides with Bridge in Ankara: Multiple Deaths and Injuries

In a tragic traffic accident in the Polatlı district of Ankara, a passenger bus collided with a bridge support, resulting in the deaths of 9 people and injuries to 26 others. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that an investigation into the incident has been initiated.

The accident occurred on the Ankara-Eskişehir Road, near Olukpınar village, as the bus traveling towards Polatlı lost control and crashed into the bridge. Preliminary reports indicate that 9 people lost their lives, and 26 were injured.

The bus, bearing license plate number 04 AAV 951 and belonging to Ağrı Seç Turizm, was heading from Ankara towards Polatlı when the accident occurred around 5:00 AM. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined.

Numerous ambulances and firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene. Rescue efforts to extract the injured from the bus are ongoing, and the Polatlı-bound section of the Ankara-Eskişehir Road has been closed to traffic.

Statement from the Governor

Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin confirmed that 9 people were killed and 26 were injured in the accident. He mentioned that there were no skid marks on the road, suggesting that the driver might have fallen asleep, and emphasized that the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Justice Minister: Investigation Launched

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç expressed his condolences and stated, “I wish Allah’s mercy on our citizens who lost their lives in the bus accident near Polatlı, Ankara, patience for their grieving families, and a speedy recovery to our injured citizens. A judicial investigation has been initiated by the Ankara Western Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the heart-wrenching accident. A Chief Public Prosecutor and three Public Prosecutors have been assigned to the investigation, which is being conducted meticulously.”

The Ministry of Health also shared that “9 of our citizens lost their lives and 26 were injured in the bus accident near Polatlı, Ankara. The treatment of the injured is continuing in hospitals.”
