Pentagon to investigate cryptos: There may be a national security threat

The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) will investigate whether crypto currencies pose a threat to national security. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Department of Defense, has undertaken a comprehensive review of crypto currencies to assess the national security threats caused by the rise of digital assets.

DARPA, which is responsible for producing new technologies for use by the American military and has uncovered technologies such as the Internet, GPS and unmanned aerial vehicles, will focus on mapping the crypto market. This organization will produce various tools that will provide the Pentagon with a detailed view of the inner workings of crypto markets.

A program manager made statements about the issue in an interview with US media. He said, “The program that is being conducted here involves mapping the crypto currency universe in detail.” He went on to say, “Beyond fighting illegal financial transactions, this program aims to obtain data on digital markets, where it is more difficult to collect detailed information.”

CLAIM: “NORTH KOREA COMMITTED ROBBERY”

The same person claimed that hackers linked to the North Korean government had carried out digital heists worth billions of dollars, and also that Russia had attacked the financial sector of Ukraine before the war.

The Tornado Cash application, which helps its customers hide the source of their crypto money for a certain fee, was also subjected to sanctions by the US Treasury Department last month.

The ministry had claimed that this practice had helped North Korean hackers launder the cryptos they stole.

THE PRESSURE IS GROWING

The same persona former Treasury official, said: “The financial sector could be part of modern warfare in the future. We need to recognize that everything we can do to strengthen and protect the financial sectors of the United States and allies is beneficial.”

On the other hand, the Treasury issued warnings this week about the national security risks posed by crypto. The US Department of Justice also announced this month that it had launched a national network of 150 prosecutors to coordinate crypto-related investigations and prosecutions.
