VIOLENCE AGAINST DOGS

A lawsuit has been filed against a person who shot and killed two dogs with a shotgun on the roof of his one-story house in Ankara with a request for up to eight years in prison for ‘intentional killing of an animal’.

According to the indictment prepared by the Ankara prosecutor general’s office, the person called Hanifi Karataş fired with a shotgun at two dogs that climbed onto the roof of his one-story house in the Mamak neighborhood on March 22. The dogs that were hit by the bullets died.

Said person who was detained by Ankara Police Department teams, was arrested for ‘intentional killing of a pet’ after an investigation by the prosecutor’s office.

The prosecutor’s office completed its investigation into the incident and prepared an indictment against said person with a request for up to eight years in prison for the crime of ‘intentionally killing a pet or pet‘.

“A STRAY DOG, ACCEPTED AS A PET”

The indictment said, the Animal Protection Law No. 5199 which has entered into force defined pets as “taken over and trained by human” and stray animals as “pets that have no shelter” and the fact that the dogs killed in the incident subject to crime were stray animals was no obstacle for accepting them as pets.
