The petition for the establishment of the new party, led by Ali Babacan, was submitted to the Ministry of Interior. The founding board of Babacan’s party named DEVA (Demokrasi ve Atılım Partisi / Democracy and Development Party) was also announced. In Turkish language DEVA means “remedy”. Mustafa Yeneroglu and Sadullah Ergin, who resigned from the AK Party were also on the board of founders.

A delegation submitted the petition to the Ministry of Interior. Idris Sahin (a former AK Party Minister) made a statement to reporters at the exit. Sahin said they had set out with the love of being a new breath in Turkish political life and a new hope. Sahin said: “This party we have established will be a hope for our nation and our state with its 90 founders, and above all, it will prepare a bright tomorrow for our women, young people and children. We are hopeful on behalf of them as well”.

Şahin said “We will do the launch meeting with the public on April 11, Wednesday. From this day on, we say ‘Bismillah’ again and set on the road with our 90 founders”. It is reported that there are 27 women and 16 young members are on the founders list with 90 members.

Ali BABACAN served as Minister of Finance in Ak Party governments for several years and he has a good reputation for having improved the Turkish economy during his service. He is also known to be a “serioous” politician with good manners, always avoiding low-level confrontations of inferior character on the political arena.

It goes without saying BABACAN together with DAVUTOĞLU (who has established another party titled GELECEK Partisi / Future Party) have been a main source of concern for AK Party leader (and the president) as they might get many votes from AK Party electorate in the next elections to come which might lead to a defeat in general and presidential elections for the AK Party + MHP alliance.
