EARLY ELECTIONS IN TURKEY

In the poll conducted by ORC Research for September, the proportion of those who thought that an early election was needed was 59.9 percent. The analysis shared in the report, following expression was used; “It seems that those who find the government unsuccessful are much higher than this rate. The fact that the economic troubles have not ended has started to weaken AKP’s loyal supporter group.”

The general elections in Turkey are two more years away. However, opposition parties continue to call for early elections. The government rejects these calls, stressing that the elections will be held on time. Researchers suggest that voting support for the ruling party is decreasing, on the other hand, polls show that the AKP’s partner, the MHP, has also failed to exceed the current threshold of 10 percent.

On the other hand, it is definite that the changes made to the electoral laws cannot be implemented before a year has passed. In other words, if there is an election before 12 months, these changes cannot be applied to that election.

But still the number of those who want to see the polls earlier is growing. ORC Research, known for its proximity to power, conducted a survey of 4,180 people in 41 between September 1-5. The results were 59.9 percent of respondents said that an early election was needed. On the other hand, according to the survey, about 40 percent of those who voted for President Tayyip Erdogan in the last election also think that an early election is needed.
