Preparing for a nuclear disaster in Ukraine: iodine tablets distributed to public

The ongoing clashes around the Zaporizhia power plant in Ukraine, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, have brought Europe to the brink of a new nuclear disaster. While experts warn that a possible radiation leak will affect the entire region, including Turkey, the Ukrainian authorities have begun distributing iodine tablets to the public in preparation for a nuclear disaster.

The fear of a nuclear disaster at the Zaporizhia power plant in Ukraine, which has seen successive attacks in the recent period, has prompted the authorities to act.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced last week that the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, controlled by Russia, had come back from the brink of disaster. Zelenskiy, who stated that the power connection at the power plant was disconnected, stated that the world was facing a major radiation leak.

‘FUEL TANK HIT BY A MISSILE’

On the other hand, Russian officials in the region stated that a Ukrainian-fired missile hit the roof of one of the power plant’s fuel tanks today, but the radiation was at a normal level.

As Russia and Ukraine continue to blame each other for the attacks around the power plant, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, announced that a delegation would visit the power plant this week.

REDUCES RISK OF CANCER

Meanwhile, it is reported that the public around the power plant has begun receiving iodine tablets. A Ukrainian military official said that about 25 thousand iodine tablets had been distributed to the public for use in the event of a possible nuclear leak in the 50-kilometer area around the power plant, and that the government would issue an urgent warning to the public in case of a disaster.
