PRESIDENT OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS

While penalties faced by some broadcasting channels in Turkey are on the agenda discussed, the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DIYANET) has shared a recruitment ad for 30-person staff in the media field. The directorate has announced it will buy into areas such as announcers and cameramen. A deputy from opposition said this media move was part of an operation to support (rescue is the word used in original news) President Erdogan.

While statements such as ”Some say let faith be between man and Allah God), only; They are raising hell so that faith does not prevail at home, trade, politics, justice, judgment” made by Ali ERBAS, the President of Religious Affairs continue to be discussed, the Religious Affairs Presidency announced it will employ 30 people in the media department. The institution, which had previously instructed the muftis (religious staff) to “be active in social media”, also announced that it would receive four directors, four announcers, five cameramen, eight producers, two luminaries, three installers and four sound recorders. The announcement said, “For candidates who will apply for the title of announcer, a certificate showing 80 hours (at least) of presenter/announcer course approved by the Ministry of Education (MEB) will be required.”

”THEY WILL PROPAGATE”

Based on news by a reporter from CUMHURIYET , CHP Izmir deputy MP Atila Sertel, who evaluated Diyanet’s media opening at a time when RTUK was punishing critical broadcasting channels (mainly opposition), said: “RTUK works as an organ of the ruling party to tame opposition channels (mainly). I mean, if you’re pro-government, they ignore your faults, they cover it up. But they do not hesitate to punishes when facts (reality) are expressed. Diyanet also wants to be active in both social media and media with concerned new staffing attempt. But this is not Diyanet’s job.”

“OPERATION TO SAVE ERDOGAN”

“They are trying to create their own media, and here they will do propaganda,” said the deputy who noted that Diyanet wanted to be turned into a “one-man-led institution.” He added, “This is all part of the operation to save Erdogan (so his chances to win coming election is higher) and they will do it using religion.”
