Published in the Official Gazette: Compensation Rights for Passengers with Delayed Flights

A regulation published in the Official Gazette and now in effect grants compensation rights to passengers whose flights are delayed. For domestic flights with a delay of 3 hours or more, passengers will be entitled to a compensation of 100 Euros. For international flights, the compensation will range from 250 to 600 Euros, depending on the distance.
The change in Article 3, paragraph (a) of the Civil Aviation Authority’s (SHGM) “Regulation on the Rights of Airline Passengers” (SHY-PASSENGER) has been published in the Official Gazette.
According to the new rule, if flights are delayed for technical or operational reasons, and the passenger arrives at their final destination with a delay of 3 hours or more, the airline company will be required to pay the specified compensation to the passenger.
WHAT ARE THE COMPENSATION AMOUNTS?
For domestic flights, passengers will receive 100 Euros, while for international flights, compensation will be determined as follows:
- For flights up to 1,500 km: 250 Euros
- For flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km: 400 Euros
- For flights over 3,500 km: 600 Euros
When calculating the equivalent of the compensation in Turkish Lira, the exchange rate of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) on the day the compensation is paid will be used.
