In recent weeks, there have been several protests in Turkey, which have received significant coverage in both local and international media. These events were primarily related to the arrest of Istanbul’s mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu based on allegations of corruption.

The mayor is normally expected to run for president in the elections to come in 2028 and also seen as a strong candidate with prospects of winning. To protest his detention and arrest, demonstrations were held in several major cities, similar to the types of protests that might occur in many European capitals. Security forces tried to maintain control over these protests, sometimes drawing backlash from the public.

Meanwhile, it is clear that these protests had not much impact on the tranquility or security in Turkey’s Western and Southern coastal tourist areas, in particular. Locals and foreign visitors in these regions continued their normal activities without any disruption. There were virtually no reports or concerns related to security in these areas.

Therefore, it is evident that foreign visitors planning to visit these regions need not worry about any safety concerns related to the said protests, under control of the administration.
