Red meat prices also hit hotels and döner shops, decreasing sales

The decline in red meat consumption, which accelerated with the pandemic, has deepened this year after the last level prices climbed to. A professional in the sector said when a 140 percent increase in red meat came in a year, hotels turned to white meat; the weight of chicken doner in the market also increased to 60 percent.

HIGH RED MEAT PRICES HIT THE SECTOR AS WELL AS CITIZENS

President of the Association of Red Meat Industrialists’ and Producers’ Association (ETBIR), who gave information that meat sold in grocery and butcher accounts for 40 percent of total consumption, said, “Due to the level of prices, the consumption of citizens fell by 20 percent in the first 6 months of the year. There are also decreases in the industrial part, which accounts for 30 percent of total consumption.”

He said, ”In the tourism sector, especially all-inclusive hotels have turned to white meat because red meat is too expensive” adding “There is also a 5-10 percent decrease in consumption on this side.”

He said that this situation was also seen in businesses selling doner,“The weight of chicken doner on the market has increased by up to 60 percent this year. It was 10 percent when it first came out.”

140 PERCENT RAISE HAS COME IN ONE YEAR, THE NEW RAISE WILL BE IN SEPTEMBER

According to said expert costs increased by 120 percent within a year, as imported items accounted for 70 percent of the sector’s production inputs. This increase in costs was also reflected as a raise in the interval of 120-140 percent to the citizen.
